Recommended for Certain Majors
If you’re admitted as:
- Undeclared
- Undeclared—Engineering
- Undeclared—Natural Sciences
- Undeclared—School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts (SSHA)
You are strongly encouraged to take all four placement exams:
- CHEM
- CSE
- MATH
- Writing Readiness Review
About the Placement Exams
All exams are:
- One-time-only
- Free
- Offered during limited testing windows
There is no disadvantage to taking them. When in doubt, take the exam.
This is especially important if you are:
- Exploring different majors
- Considering a double major or minor
- Planning for graduate or professional school (e.g., law, medical, nursing)
- Considering multiple career paths
What If You Later Earn Higher Placement?
- If you take a placement exam and later receive an AP or IB score that qualifies you for a more advanced course, you may enroll in the higher-level course.
- If you complete a transferable college course before starting and submit your official transcript, you may also enroll in the more advanced course.
